When it comes to our diet, there are so many conflicting opinions when you look online or in a book shop as to what we should eat, how often, what time and in what combination. For the layman it is therefore quite difficult to work out fact from fiction when it comes to diet.
If you are looking to lose weight or eat healthier options there are a myriad of diet choices available to you and a quick search on the internet may leave you not knowing which way to turn. In a 5 minute search I found lists including the Atkins diet, the Dukan diet, the Beverley Hills Diet, the Cabbage Soup Diet and the list is certainly not exhaustive.
*Who really knows about what foods we should eat?
Dietitians are the only professionals working in the nutrition sector to be regulated by law and governed by an ethical code to ensure they work to the highest standards. Registered Dietitians (RDs) are the only qualified health professionals that assess, diagnose and treat dietary and nutritional problems at an individual and wider public health level.
Nutritionists are qualified to provide information about food and healthy eating however anyone can call themselves a nutritionist. Only nutritionists registered with the UK Voluntary register of Nutritionists can call themselves a Registered Nutritionist
- Nutritional Therapists
Anyone can call themselves a Nutritional Therapists however they are not eligible to register with the UK Voluntary Register of Nutritionists or the Health & Care Professions Council and are not permitted by law to call themselves dietitians.

If you want to obtain an expert opinion about the food that you eat and promote your own health and wellbeing through nutrition then consulting a Dietician, Nutritionist or Nutritional Therapist may be the simple answer to ensure that the information you have is relevant to your own specific needs rather than wasting valuable time and money on fad foods and highly marketed diet plans. Medigest has a number of options when you are looking for Consultant Specialists or therapists in the private sector and you can also discuss your concerns and conditions and treatment in the dedicated forums.
